Fact checkers examine anti-Murkowski ads
October 07, 2010
Annenberg Policy Center’s FactCheck.org looked into some things that the Tea Party Express claims against Sen. Lisa Murkowski on behalf of her opponent, Republican candidate Joe Miller. Sen. Murkowski has said that the claims are “false, misleading and deceptive” (.pdf). The Tea Party Express ad accuses Murkowski of trying to “influence the absentee vote count,” which FactCheck.org calls false. The ad claims Murkowski tried to “manipulate” the Libertarian Party to take over its spot on the Nov. ballot; FactCheck calls that stretching the truth. The ad claims that Murkowski’s Senate seat was a “gift her daddy gave her,” but the checkers call that “misleading.” Read the justification for those verdicts, plus much more, here.
